With the new Workflow Designer, DocuWare is optimizing process automation – since DocuWare version 7.14, this even applies to locally installed systems. Next year, the web-based tool will completely replace the desktop app. Take this opportunity to actively support your customers through the transition and position yourself as a competent point of contact.
Key Facts
For both DocuWare Cloud and the on-premises versions of DocuWare, the following steps are planned:
Starting in fall 2026 (DocuWare version 7.15), new workflows can only be created using the web-based designer. Editing of existing workflows will still be possible in the desktop app for the time being.
As of spring 2027 (DocuWare version 7.16), the desktop app will be discontinued, and workflow editing will take place exclusively in the browser.
Existing workflows do not need to be migrated by a fixed deadline. They will continue to run reliably and can be gradually transferred to the web-based designer as needed. Migration of an individual workflow will only be required if customers want to modify an existing one. Nevertheless, we generally recommend migrating your workflows as soon as possible, as the Workflow Designer desktop app will no longer be supported in the medium term. Migration is Simple and Can Be Tested
All existing workflows appear in the web-based designer, where they are marked as “To be migrated.” Using the “Migrate” function, you can conveniently transfer workflows, and with “Create migrated copy,” you can first test new versions.
Our Recommendation: Support your customers early in adopting the web-based designer. During migration projects, be sure to highlight breaking changes to avoid technical surprises and ensure a smooth transition.
