DocuWare SDK: User agent becomes mandatory for DocuWare Cloud

Product news

To provide the best possible security for DocuWare Cloud and support for developers, the use of user agents will become mandatory when accessing DocuWare Cloud via the API starting September 2024. This is an important change, particularly for technical colleagues and (integration) developers.

Why is implementing user agents mandatory?

As digital threats increase, so does the need to better protect DocuWare systems and provide our users with best-in-class security. By using user agents to access the DocuWare Cloud API, we can, in the best way possible, significantly reduce the risk of malicious attacks and protect sensitive data.

In addition to improved security measures, the use of user agents provides valuable support for developers and customers. User-agent information can speed up problem resolution and improve service responsiveness, resulting in a more efficient and user-friendly experience.

What does this mean for third-party applications?

All applications that do not currently send a user agent’s requests to the DocuWare Platform (API) must be adapted to continue to communicate with DocuWare Cloud.

Which applications impact me / my customers?

We've already started tracking which organizations are sending requests to DocuWare Cloud without a user agent. Over the next few months, we'll begin to notify you (as our Partner) if third-party applications are accessing your cloud organizations or your customers' cloud organizations without a user agent.

What about DocuWare on-premises installations?

Nothing changes for on-premises installations. Requests without a user agent can still be used there.

To ensure a smooth transition, you should familiarize yourself with the necessary changes early on and inform technical colleagues about this requirement.

It‘s a good idea to make necessary adjustments due to this change plus the change recently made to cookie authentication/OAuth.
