DocuWare SDK: Discontinuation of cookie authentication

DocuWare shifts to oAuth2 for third-party app authentication

In order to further increase the security of DocuWare, we are currently changing the authentication for third-party applications from the cookie authentication to the modern and secure oAuth2 authentication. Third-party applications must be adapted accordingly.

Schedule for the changeover

Security is a key priority for DocuWare, which is why the switch to oAuth2 authentication is important to us. Many steps have already been taken on the DocuWare side, but maybe your system also needs to be customized.

Since April 2023, oAuth2 authentication is available for third-party applications. The functionality is also included in the .NET SDK since version 13. And with the current DocuWare Version 7.10, all server and desktop connections now also use the oAuth2 standard

From the version planned for September 2024, cookie authentication will no longer be supported. All third-party applications that still use cookie authentication must be adapted accordingly. Your DocuWare Partner has been informed of this change and, if you are affected by this change, may have already contacted you.

Here are a few in-depth FAQs:

What does this mean for third-party applications?
•    Applications based on the .NET SDK should be checked for the version of the .NET SDK used and, if necessary, updated to the latest version of the .NET SDK.

•    Applications that are based directly on the REST API must be adapted in all cases. The login and authentication process must be changed. The documentation, including Postman Collection, can be found at developer.docuware.com.

Where can I find documentation and sample code?
•    For documentation and sample code based on the Postman Collection, see developer.docuware.com.

What is the situation with DocuWare Cloud?
•    As soon as an organization is updated to the version planned for September 2024, access via cookie authentication is no longer possible.

What is the situation with DocuWare on-premises installations?
•    Since the update time can be chosen by the customer, there is no fixed date on which cookie authentication will no longer work for a customer.

Do I need to update DocuWare Connect to SAP?
•    All versions prior to Connect to SAP 2.4.12 must be updated.
Please contact your Authorized DocuWare Partner.

In the iPaaS connector for Make.com, how is the connection switched to oAuth?
•    Create a new connection in a make.com scenario with the type “DocuWare oAuth2”. Then replace the existing cookie-based connection in all DocuWare modules with the newly created one.

If you have any questions on this, please contact your Authorized DocuWare Partner or the DocuWare Support team. Here is how to open a support request
